Good morning. Welcome to Whitwick & District U3A.

May we remind you that the next general meeting and talk is tomorrow. Further details are provided below.

What is U3A? It stands for University of the Third Age, but not in today's accepted meaning of the word. It is a community of people like yourself - third agers, people no longer in full-time employment. It is a non-political and non-religious organisation.

We take part in group activities, which are central to all U3As. We have over 40 such groups where we learn from each other and from direct experience, rather than being taught in a formal setting . There is no formal structure of assessment or awards. Any member can, and is encouraged to, form a new group within their own area of interest or expertise.

Our membership is drawn from North West Leicestershire, primarily from the Whitwick / Coalville area and other nearby towns and villages. Our general meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of the month at Broomleys Church Hall at 2.00 pm. You are most welcome to come along and find out more.

New groups etc.

Science, Engineering and Technology (S.E.T.) This group has recently re-formed and will be meeting during the afternoon of the 3rd. Thursday each month. The first meeting will be on Thursday 15 February 2018. For this meeting, members will have researched their own choice of topic on Time and will be reporting their findings back to the group.

Walking Holiday 2018 Bourton on the Water - a provisional booking has been made - more details on the group page .

Reminiscence Group Those of you who have done the Memory Course, or who have heard about it, will know how important to mental health it is to keep the memory active. As an off-shoot of this we are thinking of introducing a new activity – reminiscing about our past – a sort of living or oral history; looking at how things have changed and how these changes have formed and informed us. A ten-week programme or group activity is envisaged, looking at how we grew up, played, holidayed, learned, developed and were entertained. It is possible we will be able to make some sort of record of what we find and share. If you are interested in being part of this or want to know more about it and how it will work, then please sign up – you don’t need to have done the Memory Course - and ask either Wendy Mills or Lynne Cox reminisce at whitwicku3a dot org dot uk about it.

For more information on the whole range of interest groups, including their meeting arrangements, please look at the Groups page.
