Peter Barratt: My suffragette great-grandmother Alice Hawkins

2018 is the centenary of women getting the vote in this country after many years of campaigning. Alice was a working class lady, mother of six, who formed the Leicester branch of the movement in 1907 and went on to be imprisoned five times in the fight for women’s rights. The family still have much of her suffragette memorabilia and we are privileged to have her great-grandson telling her story.
