Dr John Sutton - The Commonwealth War Graves Commission

John has been a very keen amateur historian for many years, particularly of the Great War, Women's Rights and the Justice System during the 19th & 20th centuries.

To mark the centenary of the end of World War 1, this talk will chart the origins and early years of the Imperial (now Commonwealth) War Graves Commission (IWGC), and examine the work of the founders, the design and construction of the battlefield cemeteries and memorials, and the harrowing clearances of the battlefields after the Armistice in Nov 1918.
