Good morning. Welcome to Whitwick & District U3A.
May we remind you that the next general meeting and talk is today. Further details are provided below.
What is U3A? It stands for University of the Third Age, but not in today's accepted meaning of the word. It is a community of people like yourself - third agers, people no longer in full-time employment. It is a non-political and non-religious organisation.
We take part in group activities, which are central to all U3As. We have over 40 such groups where we learn from each other and from direct experience, rather than being taught in a formal setting . There is no formal structure of assessment or awards. Any member can, and is encouraged to, form a new group within their own area of interest or expertise.
Our membership is drawn from North West Leicestershire, primarily from the Whitwick / Coalville area and other nearby towns and villages. Our general meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of the month at Broomleys Church Hall at 2.00 pm. You are most welcome to come along and find out more.
Notice is given for a Special General Meeting to be held Friday 16th November 2018. The short SGM will take place prior to the scheduled talk. The one item of business is to consider an amendment to the constitution. Details of the SGM can be found here, and a copy of the current constitution here.

New groups etc.
There are insufficient numbers to run a second Time to Remember Course in November. However, it is hoped to run one in Spring 2019.
Another six week Water Confidence class starts on Wednesday 7 th November at 12 noon at the Hermitage Leisure Centre at Whitwick. The class would benefit people who are perhaps a little nervous of being in water, and will aim to improve general confidence as well as stroke technique, breathing, floating, being under water, jumping in or attempting to go that extra distance eg a width or a length. The group leader will be in the water with you and not shouting from the poolside. A maximum of four people can be accommodated to ensure individual attention. Each session will last for about an hour and the cost will be £3.80 per session. If you have been on a previous course, you would be welcome to attend this one also. Why not come and take the plunge? It's fun !!!
Details for the 2019 Walking holiday in the Lake District are now on the Walking Holiday page, but hurry if you wish to join in.
