Whitwick & District U3A - Music Appreciation
Do you like listening to classical music? If you come along to this group you can join us in attending monthly lunchtime concerts at Emmanuel church in Loughborough from October through to March / April each year and to other concerts that we feel may be of interest to group members.
During the winter months we meet at Emmanuel Church, Loughborough.
Generally the 3rd Thursday of the month. We meet inside the church hall at 11.45am for a light lunch before the recital which starts at 12.45pm..
From October 2017 until April 2018 group members will be going to the lunchtime concerts held at Emmanuel Church in Loughborough, details below. In addition, if any of the group members hear about a concert they think may be of interest to the rest of the group then please let Rose know.
Thu Jan 18th Some young people from the Loughborough Endowed Schools will be entertaining us and lunch will be served from 11.45am.
Thu Feb 15th - a concert by 3-in-a-Bar (Jenny Saunders, Soprano; David Morris, Tenor and Jeremy Kimber, Piano) – 12.45 pm (lunch served from 11.45am)
Thu Mar 15th - The Capriccio Ensemble will be playing the Piano Quintet in F Major by Brahms - 12.45pm (lunch served from 11.45am)
Thu Apr 19th - For the final concert of the 20th Anniversary Season, there will be a performance of the original Chamber version of 'Carnival of the Animals', by a small orchestra featuring two pianos, a string quartet, flute, clarinet, xylophone and glass harmonica, complete with narrator. 12.45pm (lunch served from 11.45am)
Thu Jun 21st - Phryne has kindly offered to host a small gathering to listen to some music by Shostakovich and to learn a little about him and his music. Details of time and place will be sent to group members nearer the date.
There will not be a meeting of the Group in July or August.
Thu Sep 20th - The meeting this month is the last one before the lunchtime concerts begin at Emmanuel Church. We will be meeting at a member's house, where we hope to inspire you with Mozart. A vast subject whose list of written compositions, fills 20 pages!!
